New Inspirations: Shuswap Wildlife Series

March 16, 2025

I’m so excited to share some big news with you! Recently, I’ve been diving back into watercolors—something I explored in the past but am now rediscovering with fresh eyes. And to make this journey even more exciting, I’m about to start a new mentorship program through Mastrius!

Watercolors won’t replace my love for pastels, but rather add to my artistic journey. Who knows? Maybe I’ll find a way to combine the two mediums in a unique way! Experimenting with new techniques and materials always brings fresh energy, and I can’t wait to see where this path leads.

Blending Two Worlds: Pastels & Watercolors
I love how pastels offer rich texture and depth, while watercolors bring fluidity and unpredictability. And soon, I will play with ways to merge these two styles, and it could open up so many creative possibilities. Have you ever combined different art mediums? I’d love to hear about your experiences!

A Quick Art Tip!
If you’re trying watercolors for the first time (or coming back to them like me), here’s a tip: Try letting go of control and let the magic happen! Unlike pastels, where layering can refine every detail, watercolors have a mind of their own. One of my mentors says that embracing their fluid nature can lead to happy accidents and unexpected beauty.

For My Collectors & Art Enthusiasts
I know many of you have collected my pastel paintings, and I truly appreciate your support! If you're curious about my latest works in watercolor and pastel, you can view them on my website: olivedoddart.com. I’m currently in the process of revamping my site, so stay tuned for updates as I refine my online gallery!

Also, I’m thrilled to announce that next July, I’ll be showing some of my work at the Reidman Gallery in the Blind Bay Hall. Mark your calendars—I’d love for you to come and see my latest pieces in person!

Looking Ahead
I’m excited to share more insights from my mentorship journey and my experiments with mixed media. Stay tuned for new artwork, discoveries, and lessons learned along the way!

Warmly,
