Along the quiet stream, a powerful presence waits — almost unseen, yet fully aware.

Along the quiet stream, a powerful presence waits — almost unseen, yet fully aware.
This original pastel painting captures a quiet encounter in the wild — a moment where strength blends seamlessly into the land. The bear stands still at the stream’s edge, partially hidden by the colors of the turning season. With soft light, layered texture, and a sense of stillness, River Watch invites the viewer to pause and notice what lies just beneath the surface.
In this piece, I wanted to capture one of those moments where the wild is both present and hidden — where you sense the bear before you truly see it. The stillness of the stream, the glow of fall, and the bear’s quiet strength all came together in this painting. I’m drawn to the idea of animals as part of the land itself — not separate, but woven in.
River Watch invites you to pause, look more closely, and feel the presence of the untamed world just beyond the trees.

Where Love and Mischief Go Hoof in Hoof

This affectionate duo of donkeys was already bringing a smile to my face when I began painting — their playful pose, expressive eyes, and unmistakable personalities captured everything I love about these endearing animals. I’ve always admired donkeys for their quiet intelligence and gentle hearts, and this image instantly spoke to me.
But just as I neared completion, I shared my progress with a friend — and she shared a story that added unexpected depth. She had once cared for a bonded mother and daughter donkey pair. After the mother slipped on ice and passed away despite care and effort, the daughter, heartbroken, later put herself into the same situation. Unable to recover, she too had to be put down. A story of loyalty so deep, it transcends even survival.
That story stayed with me. It wove itself into the final touches of this painting, infusing it with something more — a tribute not just to their charm and mischief, but to the deep emotional bonds donkeys carry in their soft ears and big hearts.
A quiet moment with one of nature’s gentle giants.

Meet Me in the Canopy captures the tender presence of one of nature’s most endearing giants. I was drawn to the softness in this giraffe’s eyes — that gentle curiosity animals often share when they sense you mean no harm.
Against the cool, misty greens of the forest, the warm light across the face creates a peaceful moment of connection, almost as if this quiet soul has stepped forward to meet you.
Giraffes have always fascinated me — their grace, their stillness, and the calm wisdom they seem to carry. In this piece, I spent extra time shaping the eyes, because they are the heart of the encounter and the truest glimpse into the animal’s spirit.
My hope is that this painting brings a sense of calm, presence, and wonder into your home — a reminder that even the tallest among us can carry the softest voice.
A welcoming cabin nestled beneath the quiet winter forest.
Pastel
9 × 12 inches
There is something timeless about discovering a log cabin tucked among towering trees after a long day outdoors. Haven in the Woods was inspired by many years spent hiking and skiing through Canada's National Parks where remote warden cabins were often the destination after hours on the trail. Reaching the cabin meant shelter a chance to light the wood stove hang the lanterns and slowly bring warmth and life into the quiet space. This soft pastel painting is less about a particular place than a feeling—the simple satisfaction of arriving safely creating your own haven and settling into the peaceful embrace of the forest. Created on Pastelmat paper the rich layers of pastel capture the quiet beauty of winter and the enduring comfort of a place to call home even if only for a night.
The promise of warmth after a winter journey.

There is something deeply comforting about a backcountry cabin waiting quietly among the trees. Woodland Retreat captures the quiet comfort of a backcountry log cabin surrounded by fresh snow and towering evergreens. Inspired by years of hiking and skiing to remote warden cabins this watercolor reflects the reassuring sight of shelter after a long day outdoors. Though the cabin awaits its visitor it already holds the promise of warmth rest and the simple joy of arriving. This painting is part of an ongoing series celebrating the beauty and peace of wilderness cabins. Unlike my previous evening cabin painting this watercolor captures the gentle light of daytime. The soft washes and delicate details reflect the peaceful stillness of winter and the timeless appeal of a place where nature and shelter exist in perfect harmony.

Forest Sunshine captures that radiant, heart-warming moment when sunlight spills through the trees and bathes the forest in golden light. The air feels alive — golden, soft, and full of promise — as nature invites you to slow down, breathe deeply, and wander just a little farther.
Inspired by quiet walks in nature, this piece expresses the warmth and positive energy I feel when surrounded by the forest — a deep sense of connection, calm, and renewal. It’s a reminder that peace often finds us when we step outside and let nature lead the way.
Where blossoms and wings meet in a quiet moment of colour and light.
Soft Pastel on Pastelmat

Some paintings are inspired by the beauty of nature, while others are inspired by the people who enrich our lives.
This hummingbird was created as a companion to my earlier painting, Song of the Wings. Designed to complement the original while standing on its own, the hummingbird faces the opposite direction, creating a graceful sense of balance between the two pieces.
I wanted this painting to have its own personality while maintaining the same feeling of movement, colour, and light. Hovering among vibrant summer blossoms, the hummingbird captures a fleeting moment of energy and quiet elegance.
This is one of those paintings where everything seemed to come together naturally. Rich colour, soft atmosphere, and delicate details combined to create a piece that became one of my personal favourites. I'm especially grateful that it has found a home with someone who has cherished the original painting from the very beginning.

Strength carried on silent wings
Pastel
12 × 9 inches
Silent Surprise at Dawn captures a fleeting moment charged with quiet intensity – when the forest is still between night and day. Against a backdrop cloaked in mist and shadow a majestic owl emerges without warning wings fully extended in graceful flight its presence felt more than heard. The feathers ripple with washes of deep blues and soft purples interwoven with subtle touches of yellow that catch the faint morning light. The owl’s bright orange eyes hold an unwavering focus pulling the viewer into the scene with his piercing watchful gaze. The composition balances mystery and natural elegance drawing on the contrast between the softly illuminated bird and the dark whispering woods beyond. This interplay of light and shadow evokes the fragile beauty of dawn—the moment when the world holds its breath before daybreak. There is a palpable sense of calm energy here as if time has slowed just enough to witness the owl’s silent approach blending strength and grace in a fleeting unforgettable encounter. It invites the viewer to pause to notice and to feel the quiet power of a creature perfectly at home in the in-between hours.
Radiant clematis blossoms glowing against a cool, tranquil backdrop.
Oil Pastel
12 × 9 inches
Some paintings begin with a place as much as a subject. This clematis was inspired by a photograph I took during a visit to a beautiful local garden on a warm summer day. Surrounded by vibrant blooms and shared with fellow artists it became a memorable source of inspiration. As I painted I wanted the flowers to become the stars of the composition glowing against the cooler background and capturing the warmth and beauty of that afternoon. This piece also became an exciting creative experiment. It combines a watercolor underpainting with layers of oil pastel and coloured pencil details. I was immediately drawn to the creamy texture and blendability of oil pastels and although I learned that cold-pressed watercolor paper wasn't my ideal surface every experiment teaches something new. For me this painting represents not only the beauty of a single flower but also the joy of discovering new materials and continuing to grow as an artist. Inspired by my own reference photograph taken with permission in a private garden.
Delicate beauty meets playful spirit
Pastel
12 × 9 inches
“Petals & Whiskers” celebrates the playful innocence and tender beauty of one of nature’s smallest creatures. Nestled among the glowing petals of a sunflower the chipmunk seems perfectly at home as though the flower itself was designed as a throne just for her. Her alert eyes and soft fur contrast with the bold vibrancy of the sunflower creating a scene that is both lively and serene. For me this painting was about capturing the way little moments in nature can stop us in our tracks. A sunflower is already a symbol of joy growth and resilience—but add a chipmunk and it becomes a story of curiosity and delight. I wanted viewers to feel that sense of surprise of stumbling upon a fleeting moment of magic in the garden. The soft pastels allowed me to explore both texture and light: the silky sheen of the petals the delicate fluff of fur and the sparkling greens and blues of the background. This combination brings energy into the work echoing the liveliness of both summer gardens and the chipmunk herself. “Petals & Whiskers” is a reminder that joy can be found in the simplest encounters. It invites you to slow down take notice and appreciate the little wonders of the natural world.

Song of the Wings In a moment of color and flight the spirit sings. Soft pastel on Pastelmat Wine colored paper – Size: 9 x 12 Painted by Olive ('25) In Song of the Wings the fleeting beauty of a hummingbird is captured in a shimmering moment of color and movement. Their distinctive sound — a soft vibrant hum — inspired this painting where the spirit of freedom and vitality is expressed through luminous pastels. This piece invites you to pause listen and feel the wild heart of the garden as it sings on the breeze.

White wings moving through winter light
Pastel on Pastelmat
14 × 18 inches
Into the Stillness captures a fleeting moment of quiet flight, when a white owl moves effortlessly through the muted light of winter. Emerging from the forest, the owl’s wings are open and steady, carrying both strength and grace into the hush of the landscape.
Soft layers of blue, violet, and pale gold suggest a world hushed by cold, where sound is absorbed and time feels slowed. The whiteness of the owl becomes a source of light itself — not harsh or dramatic, but calm and purposeful.
This painting reflects my ongoing fascination with moments in nature that feel almost unseen: the brief pause, the silent passing, the quiet presence that asks us to slow down and notice.
