Paintings inspired by mountain trails, forests, water, changing light, and the quiet beauty of wild places.
Daisies dancing among the colours of a summer garden.
Pastel
12 × 9 inches
Wild Garden celebrates the wonderfully imperfect beauty of flowers growing freely together. White daisies rise from a loose tapestry of pinks greens and soft blues while the surrounding garden dissolves into colour and atmosphere. Rather than focusing on every detail I wanted this painting to capture the feeling of being among the flowers—the movement changing light and little flashes of colour that catch your eye as you wander through a garden. Created in soft pastel the piece allowed me to work more loosely and intuitively letting some areas remain suggested rather than defined. The result is a gentle impressionistic glimpse of summer and the simple pleasure of flowers allowed to grow a little wild.

The promise of warmth after a winter journey.
Watercolor

There is something deeply comforting about a backcountry cabin waiting quietly among the trees. Woodland Retreat captures the quiet comfort of a backcountry log cabin surrounded by fresh snow and towering evergreens. Inspired by years of hiking and skiing to remote warden cabins this watercolor reflects the reassuring sight of shelter after a long day outdoors. Though the cabin awaits its visitor it already holds the promise of warmth rest and the simple joy of arriving. This painting is part of an ongoing series celebrating the beauty and peace of wilderness cabins. Unlike my previous evening cabin painting this watercolor captures the gentle light of daytime. The soft washes and delicate details reflect the peaceful stillness of winter and the timeless appeal of a place where nature and shelter exist in perfect harmony.
A welcoming cabin nestled beneath the quiet winter forest.

There is something timeless about discovering a log cabin tucked among towering trees after a long day outdoors. Haven in the Woods was inspired by many years spent hiking and skiing through Canada's National Parks where remote warden cabins were often the destination after hours on the trail. Reaching the cabin meant shelter a chance to light the wood stove hang the lanterns and slowly bring warmth and life into the quiet space. This soft pastel painting is less about a particular place than a feeling—the simple satisfaction of arriving safely creating your own haven and settling into the peaceful embrace of the forest. Created on Pastelmat paper the rich layers of pastel capture the quiet beauty of winter and the enduring comfort of a place to call home even if only for a night.

Radiant clematis blossoms glowing against a cool, tranquil backdrop.
Oil Pastel
12 × 9 inches
Some paintings begin with a place as much as a subject. This clematis was inspired by a photograph I took during a visit to a beautiful local garden on a warm summer day. Surrounded by vibrant blooms and shared with fellow artists it became a memorable source of inspiration. As I painted I wanted the flowers to become the stars of the composition glowing against the cooler background and capturing the warmth and beauty of that afternoon. This piece also became an exciting creative experiment. It combines a watercolor underpainting with layers of oil pastel and coloured pencil details. I was immediately drawn to the creamy texture and blendability of oil pastels and although I learned that cold-pressed watercolor paper wasn't my ideal surface every experiment teaches something new. For me this painting represents not only the beauty of a single flower but also the joy of discovering new materials and continuing to grow as an artist. Inspired by my own reference photograph taken with permission in a private garden.

Soft colour gathered after rain
Pastel, Coloured Pencil
7.5 × 9 inches
This piece began with a coloured pencil workshop led by Kristy Partridge which focused on a single blue bloom. While the structure of the flower was inspired by that session I followed my own intuition to evolve the painting. I first created the soft pastel background — layered blues and greens blended into an abstract atmosphere. After sealing the surface with fixative I returned to develop the flower in coloured pencil allowing it to emerge forward from that field of colour. The final touch was the falling droplet — a quiet detail that completed the sense of suspended motion. The contrast between the looseness of the background and the precision of the petals gives this piece its gentle tension. The blues shift subtly in the light deepening against the warmth of the golden centre. Though slightly outside my usual wildlife and landscape focus this work continues my exploration of light atmosphere and the emotional depth of colour — that moment between rainfall and returning light
Nature's gentle invitation to wander
Soft Pastel on Pastelmat

Forest Sunshine captures that radiant, heart-warming moment when sunlight spills through the trees and bathes the forest in golden light. The air feels alive — golden, soft, and full of promise — as nature invites you to slow down, breathe deeply, and wander just a little farther.

A quiet coastal moment shaped by wind, water, and light
Pastel
12 × 9 inches
Sometimes a painting begins as a simple exercise and gradually becomes something more. This piece started as a study of palm trees inspired by a reference photo generously shared by Tammy Boss from Bermuda. As the painting developed the scene felt too quiet and unfinished so I added a distant sailboat and foreground rocks to create a sense of story and balance. The result is a peaceful coastal moment — a gently leaning palm shaped by ocean breezes soft grasses in the foreground and a sailboat drifting quietly along the horizon. The composition evokes the feeling of a warm unhurried afternoon by the sea. Created in soft pastel this painting celebrates simplicity and atmosphere — a calm and restful scene that invites the viewer to pause and enjoy a quiet island daydream.

Along the quiet stream, a powerful presence waits — almost unseen, yet fully aware.

Along the quiet stream, a powerful presence waits — almost unseen, yet fully aware.
This original pastel painting captures a quiet encounter in the wild — a moment where strength blends seamlessly into the land. The bear stands still at the stream’s edge, partially hidden by the colors of the turning season. With soft light, layered texture, and a sense of stillness, River Watch invites the viewer to pause and notice what lies just beneath the surface.
In this piece, I wanted to capture one of those moments where the wild is both present and hidden — where you sense the bear before you truly see it. The stillness of the stream, the glow of fall, and the bear’s quiet strength all came together in this painting. I’m drawn to the idea of animals as part of the land itself — not separate, but woven in.
River Watch invites you to pause, look more closely, and feel the presence of the untamed world just beyond the trees.
